By BBN Staff: Succotz resident, Elias Yacab passed away last week after contracting COVID-19. Yacab was admitted at the KHMH ICU and died on September 22.
According to a report from Channel 5 Belize, seventeen members of the Yacab family has tested positive for COVID-19.
In an interview with Elias’ brother, Edwin, he explained that they are unaware of where Elias got infected with the virus but after being swabbed, 17 of the family members including Elias children tested positive for COVID-19.
Elias was an employee of Prosser Fertilizer in Santa Elena, Cayo.
“We really can’t tell if he was the one infected first from the family or anyone else because after everything – the family, along with the children, there are seventeen of us and all seventeen of us came out positive from COVID, that is including children. Like six of us were really affected to the point where we couldn’t breathe properly. If we walked we get tired. We had a cough and pain in our lungs and fever. But we are going through it and thank God we are making it,” Edwin stated.
Prosser Fertilizer had issued an advisory on September 3 that it was closed for sanitization after one of their employees had tested positive for COVID-19.
Another notice on September 15 noted that the store was closed again since 4 more employees were infected.
