By Aaron Humes: Attorney General and Minister of National Security Michael Peyrefitte told reporters after today’s meeting of the Senate that he is still waiting on Director of Health Services Dr. Marvin Manzanero to turn over the full list of patients diagnosed with COVID-19, as well as those in self-isolation and required quarantine.

Pending the discussion on alternative means of doing this as announced last week, the DHS is still answerable to S.I. 134 of 2020, signed by his Minister Pablo Marin.

The law makes not turning over the information an offense but Peyrefitte sidestepped the question of whether Dr Manzanero is in breach and consequent penalties.

He did reiterate the importance of the information to authorities, citing the collaboration of the Ministries of Health and National Security in monitoring and enforcing the mandatory orders in place.

And he added that the Ministry would be sure to keep the information from being maliciously widely disseminated, pointing out uncomfortably that the Ministry knows much more about Belizeans that doesn’t get out.

Front-line workers in the Ministry of National Security such as police, BDF, and Coast Guard, he added, deserve to know the names of those to whom they are exposed in their daily activities.

More later on.
