By Aaron Humes: The new headquarters of the National Fire Service, to be located in the Lake Independence Development Area along Lake Independence Boulevard on 1.5 acres of land, will cost $3.3 million, Government said today.
That is more than its estimated market value for the current property now sold to Atlantic Bank Limited, but far less than the $8 million paid for the original construction in 1992, done under what it calls a “severely bloated contract.”
The new property offers room for expansion, better options for deployment in times of emergency and a water storage and tanking system on-site for less than half the price paid 28 years ago.
The construction of the new Belize City Fire Station will soon get underway, the Government statement concluded.
