One detained, one on the run after pair allegedly steal Coast Guard boat and shoot at cops

By BBN Staff: Police have detained one man and are seeking another after the pair stole a boat belonging to the Belize Coast Guard early this morning.

Reports are that Shayne Godoy and another man only identified as “Peanuts” stole a Coast Guard Skiff around 4:15 a.m. Authorities say that they caught up with the culprits near the Belcan Bridge, but the men began shooting at them.

Authorities managed to detain Godoy, but “Peanuts” got away. Godoy alleged that a police officer hit him in the forehead with a weapon during his apprehension and was later taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for examination and treatment.

The search continues for the missing suspect.
