Meteorologists monitor two tropical waves, both could hit Belize

Posted: Thursday, October 1, 2020. 9:32 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Meteorologists are monitoring two tropical waves, one in the west-central Caribbean Sea and the other hundreds of miles east on the Lesser

Antilles; both of which have projected paths that lead to Belize.

Weather experts say that the tropical wave in the Caribbean Sea (designated as Tropical Disturbance 1) has a “good chance of strengthening into a tropical depression this weekend,” noting that it has a 70 percent chance of strengthening into a tropical depression in the next five days.

The tropical wave is expected to slowly move west-northwest, and people living in Belize, western Cuba and the Yucatán Peninsula should monitor it as it continues to gain strength.

Meanwhile, weather experts say that the future of Tropical Disturbance 2 is still uncertain. The National Hurricane Center in the United
States gave it just a 20 percent chance of developing in the next five days but noted that conditions for strengthening could improve as it
moves into the central or western Caribbean Sea early next week.
