By BBN Staff: The People’s United Party has launched its policy on infrastructure, rural living, housing, and transport as part of its #PlanBelize Manifesto.

With relation to rural living, the PUP pledges to abolish politically appointed water boards and transfer responsibility to the elected village council.

The party says that a new PUP government will give village councils the authority to collect the revenue from trade licenses, sandpits, and mines within their villages.

In addition, the PUP says that it will implement policies to improve the way liquor licenses, fees, and regulations for rural areas are managed and expedite the processing of all monies allocated to the village council from the Ministry of Finance.

A new PUP Government will also provide village councils with adequate resources to provide proper services to their communities and ensure annual audits of the village council accounts by the Auditor General.

As for infrastructural developments in rural areas, the PUP says that it will ensure the central government builds and maintains new farm roads and infrastructure and the new policy will undertake a massive village infrastructure program to improve streets, bridges, culverts, and garbage collection in rural communities.
