PUP: New government will build 10,000 low-income houses

By BBN Staff: The People’s United Party (PUP) as the government in waiting has launched its policy on infrastructure, rural living, housing, and transport.

The PUP pledges to facilitate the building of 10,000 low-income houses over the next 5 years.

In addition, the PUP pledges to implement a revolutionary rent-to-own program to encourage first-time homeownership for Belizeans.

The party also plans to ensure that at least 30% of new homes are reserved for women, police, soldiers, coast guard officers, teachers, and nurses, and pass legislation to encourage housing subdivisions development in public-private partnerships.

Phase 1 of that project would include the construction of at least 50 starter homes in each constituency building up to 1,550 homes in total.

Included in their plans is for Government-subsidized affordable houses for Belizeans.
