The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is reporting that Tropical Depression twenty-five has become Tropical Storm Gamma tonight.
Gamma is expected to move over the Yucatan Peninsula tomorrow, Saturday. As of 8 PM, the storm was moving northwest at 9 mph with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph. According to the NHC, it was about 135 miles south-southeast of Cozumel, Mexico.
The Mexican Government has issued a tropical storm warning from Punta Herrero to Cabo Catoche and a tropical storm watch for the south of Punta Herrero to Puerto Costa Maya.
Forecasters are stating that Gamma is expected to turn to the northwest and slowdown in the next couple of days.
The National Meteorological Service (Met Service) said that the storm could produce heavy rainfall over Belize, with the possibility of flooding, especially over low-lying and flood-prone areas. “Gusty winds are also likely near heavy showers and thunderstorms.”
The Met Service continues to monitor the progress of this storm as it moves northwestward.
