5 prison guards test positive for COVID-19

By BBN Staff: Five prison guards of the Belize Central Prison have tested positive for COVID-19.

According to reports, on Monday, inmates will be tested for the virus.

In an interview with the media, CEO of the Kolbe Foundation, Virgilio Murillo said that a guard went home on September 15th and around the 21st, he began to experience symptoms.

He got tested and on the 28th, he was informed that he tested positive.

Since then, 30 guards have been tested and four have tested positive for the virus.

The prison is continuing with contact tracing among guards and inmates.

The guards are from Punta Gorda, Corozal, San Ignacio and Orange Walk.
