Orange Walk NEMO on alert for Tropical Storm Gamma

Posted: Saturday, October 3, 2020. 5:47 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The northern districts, particularly Orange Walk, are in for some wet weather later today and into Sunday.

Tropical Storm Gamma is slated to make landfall on the northern Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico later this evening. As of 3 p.m. Belize time it is presently located off the coast, north-northwest of Tulum, Mexico, and moving northwest at eight miles per hour, at maximum sustained winds of 65 miles per hour.

NEMO Orange Walk District Coordinator Juan Leiva advises that residents continue monitoring the system as it is expected to dump between 4 and 6 inches of rain, causing flash floods in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Be sure to review evacuation plans if necessary.

NEMO Orange Walk committees are on standby and shelters will be open under standard shelter risk protocol if the need arises.

For more contact Leiva at 614-7177, assistant Roger Reneau at 602-3457 or main NEMO office at 302-3228/2232.
