How Decision day 2020 could look

Posted: Monday, October 5, 2020. 7:18 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Prime Minister Dean Barrow informed the nation that the National Assembly will be dissolved tomorrow.

Nomination day will be October 21, 2020, and election day on November 11, 2020.

It is the first of its kind – a general election in Belize, during a pandemic.

Though the Ministry of Health has not yet issued its advice to the Elections and Boundaries Department, this 2020 general election may be far different than the previous elections in Belize.

Due to COVID-19, it is highly anticipated that there may be hand sanitizers upon entering the polling station, strict enforcement of wearing face-masks, and more classrooms may be used. Voters find their voting room by surnames, that letter group may be further broken down to avoid large gatherings.

But, we are unsure about the inking of fingers before casting your vote.

Some of the new protocols may also entail the minimizing of party workers inside the polling station.

As for the red and blue greeters in front of the polling stations, social distancing would be a priority.

Until the official protocols are made public, Belizeans are cognizant of the fact that the usual hype around this season can be shared on social media, virtually supporting their respective party and candidates.

With the world going virtual engaging in meetings, seminars, webinars, church services, e-learning, and others, political parties have also increased their online campaigns.

Decision 2020 will undoubtedly be like no other the jewel has ever seen.
