Police detain six fishermen after assault near Swing Bridge

Posted: Tuesday, October 6, 2020. 8:03 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Police have detained six fishermen, pending charges, after an altercation near the Swing Bridge in Belize City turned violent and left one man injured.

Police say that Belcan Booth personnel responded to reports of the incident and when they arrived, they found Sarteneja fisherman Victorio Reed, 26, with cut wounds to his left leg.

Reid told police that he was attacked by a group of men, who had fled the scene in a boat.

Police ended up pursuing the vessel but the captain refused to stop when asked to do so.

It was later stopped and all the occupants were detained, while one of them reportedly had to be taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
