By Aaron Humes: Of sixty-seven new cases of COVID-19 identified today by the Ministry of Health, 48 can be found in the Belize and Orange Walk Districts, and 28 of these in their district capitals, Belize City and Orange Walk Town respectively.

Director of Health Services Dr Marvin Manzanero said tonight, “The situations in Orange Walk and now Belize City are being monitored closely and this underscores the ongoing relevance of exercising all prevention measures as we move along.”

The total number of cases countrywide is 2,310, with 849 active cases (almost 37 per cent of the total) and 34 deceased. 35 persons have been cleared today by further testing.

The distribution of cases is 17 in Belize City; one in Lord’s Bank, Belize District, and two housed at Kolbe Foundation Central Prison. The others diagnosed are from San Jose, Orange Walk (four); Xaibe, Corozal (one); and Orange Walk Town (one).

Eleven of Orange Walk District’s 23 cases are from Orange Walk Town itself; the others are as follows: 4 Trial Farm, 2 San Lazaro, 2 August Pine Ridge, 1 each in Guinea Grass, Tower Hill, San Jose, Carmelita.

Cayo District saw seven cases – four in San Ignacio, two in Esperanza village and one in Benque Viejo Town. There were six new cases in Corozal; four in Corozal Town, and one each in neighbouring villages Caledonia and Libertad.

Down south, Punta Gorda recorded three new cases, Dangriga one, and Bella Vista village two, swabbed in nearby Independence.

The Ministry has conducted close to 17 thousand tests since the start of the pandemic in late March.
