By Aaron Humes: An informal agreement between the major parties has been sealed to make Election Day, November 11, a public and bank holiday.
Minister of National Security Michael Peyrefitte, who is also responsible for holidays, issued the declaration this morning in compliance with Part 2, Section 9 of the Holidays Act, Chapter 289.
The purpose of the holiday is to encourage voter turnout for the election amid COVID-19, though employers will feel in the pinch in issuing paychecks.
The next regularly scheduled holiday is the following Thursday, November 19, Garifuna Settlement Day.
