By BBN Staff: Hurricane Delta made landfall near Cancun in Mexico as a powerful storm this morning.
The storm brought down trees and knocked off power. Over 2000 people had taken refuge in shelters.
The National Hurricane Shelter noted that Delta had weakened to a category 2 storm with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph.
Although, Delta weakened a bit, it remains an extremely dangerous hurricane and forecasters say that up to 12 feet of storm surge is possible from Cabo Catoche to Progresso.
There is also an advisory for flash floods and mudslides.
Delta is then forecasted to strengthen when it re-enters the Gulf of Mexico tonight.
Delta could once again become a category 4 Hurricane.
