By BBN Staff: Kenneth “Big Tom” Flowers appeared in court yesterday to answer to a charge of ‘procuring defilement of a person by threat’.
The charge stems from an incident in which Flowers posted a video on social media showing a visibly distraught and abused woman performing oral sex on an unkown man while Flowers purportedly made repeated threats and berated the woman.
Flowers was detained on September 3rd and remanded under the state of emergency (SOE) regulations in effect at the time. In court yesterday, Flowers claimed his constitutional rights had been violated, having been detained for more than a month beyond the expiration of SOE regulations. He further alleged he was abused because the woman in the video has indicated she does not want to press charges.
Flowers was told by Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford that he would need his lawyer to take the matter up with the Supreme Court.
No plea was taken and he was denied bail and remanded back to the Belize Central Prison in Hattieville until his next date in court in December.
