By BBN Staff: The Belize Central Prison issued a statement today informing that due to the recent cases of COVID-19 among staff and inmates, the prison is initiating a full lockdown.
The lockdown will be for a period of 21 days with effect from October 13.
There will be absolutely no visits for inmates, no cash deposits nor business transactions with customers of the prison.
“Attorneys are encouraged not to visit their clients during this period, however, any such visit will be coordinated between the prison and the judiciary,” the statement noted.
The purpose of the lockdown is to avoid further spread of the virus and prevent the virus from being imported to the prison.
