By BBN Staff: Belmopan resident, Alexis Jones has been awarded a scholarship to pursue studies at Murray State University in Kentucky.
The scholarship was awarded in recognition of Jones’ achievements.
Jones hails from Belmopan City and she is the daughter of Fiona & Curtis Jones.
Alexis is majoring in Master of Business Administration Concentration Marketing.
In an interview with BBN, Alexis expressed gratitude to the University and to her family.
“I would firstly like to start by thanking Murray State University for considering me and recognizing me and all my efforts. There are several types of scholarships offered to both US Nationals and internationals, so even being recognized for one of them is awesome. Receiving this news was both exciting and emotional. I have had to make a loan to pursue my studies and my family has sacrificed so much for me, so me even being considered for this scholarship was a great surprise for which I am so grateful,” Jones said.
After receiving the news of the scholarship, Jones said that her family and friends were ecstatic and recognized the importance of the scholarship.
Upon completion of studies, Alexis plans to return home and open her own business.
“Being away from my family has helped my personal development and growth, and this exposure is priceless. With that said, I am hoping to use my all experience and exposure garnered here, and apply it in some form or the other in Belize. During these COVID19 times, things are extra risky but I would love to open my own business and encourage entrepreneurship in Belize,” she added.
Alexis says that attending Murray State has been one of the best decisions she has made because it is a good college with a safe community.
Founded in 1922, Murray State University provides students with an enriching and fulfilling college experience through 126 high-quality academic programs and more than 180 student organizations.
The University has been recognized as a top-tier university by U.S. News and World Report for 28 consecutive years, and as one of ‘America’s Best Colleges’ by Forbes for 11 consecutive years.
