By BBN Staff: Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, is reminding all political aspirants and their teams to adhere to the established protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as they go about campaigning.

Williams issued a statement today, noting that there has been increased movement by political campaigners with the pending Nomination and General Election days set for  October 21 and November 11; however, there are also increasing reports of people not adhering to protocols such as proper mask wearing.

“The Belize Police Department, therefore calls on all political parties and aspirants to keep in mind the requirements of the Quarantine Regulations to practice social distancing and wearing of mouth and nose covering when in public,” Williams said. “We would also like to request the general public to ensure they wear their mask when interacting with campaigners, making sure they do the same when visiting their homes, and or interacting with them in public.”

He went on to caution that campaigning must be done in small pockets, to account for the legal limitation of only 10 persons gathering at a time in a given space. Williams said that the department anticipates full cooperation from campaigners as the department and other authorities strive to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
