Over 40,000 applications approved for COVID-19 unemployment relief

By BBN Staff: Today, the Government of Belize issued an update on the COVID-19 unemployment relief program.

According to a statement issued, under phase 2 of the program, 66,859 applications have been received. Of those, 42,575 applications have been approved and sent to National Bank of Belize for payment.

The approved applications included 23,818 persons who were laid off and 18,757 self-employed persons.

Approvals are almost evenly divided between males and females.

With regard to payments, applicants with commercial bank accounts have been receiving their payments on the same day and payments to credit unions continue to take a few more days.

Applicants can continue to check the status of their application by following this link on the Government of Belize’s covid19.bz website: https://payment.covid19.gov.bz/paymentstatus/
