Husband detained pending investigation in Maricela Gonzalez murder case

By BBN Staff: Authorities have detained the husband of Marisela Gonzalez pending her murder investigation.

The 28-year-old mother was found dead on Monday morning near the Town’s dumpsite. Gonzalez body was found semi-nude with a single gunshot.

Officer Commanding the Crimes Investigation Branch, Supt. Alejandro Cowo said that the caretaker of the dumpsite was exiting the area when he saw the body.

Police responded and found Gonzalez body.

Investigations revealed that she was last seen alive earlier in the night with her husband.

Cowo also shared that the husband is the licensed holder of a firearm and police suspect it may have been the one used to murder Gonzalez.

Authorities also found blood on a vehicle at the home of the couple.

“Possibility we believe that actually the incident took place at the residence and they use the vehicle to transport her to where she was found,” Cowo said.

The San Pedro Town Council and the PUP Belize Rural South committee have extended condolences on the passing of Marisela.

Residents in San Pedro are clamoring for Justice for Marisela.

“As a society, we are quick to accept emotional abuse/physical and sexual abuse as a norm. We often blame the victim. It is time that we start holding these perpetrators responsible for their actions. Regardless of their rank in politics and our society. Our healthcare workers, police officers, social workers and society on a whole need to be sensitized on the statistics and cycle of abuse in order for them to effectively do their job. As a society, we must do better and support women in abusive relationships,” stated Andre Perez.
