By Aaron Humes: Belize will follow the international protocols concerning distribution of a potential COVID-19 vaccine, Director of Health Services (DHS) Dr. Marvin Manzanero said today.

Belize also has an established protocol for giving out the influenza vaccine of which 40 thousand is made available annually and a boosted 10 percent this year.

Frontline workers go first followed by persons over 60 and under 23 months; pregnant women, patients with hypertension, cancer, AIDS and so on.

Dr. Manzanero noted that the flu vaccine has not been fully used at any time and he does not expect the same situation for COVID-19.

Under the Covax plan, Belize has paid US$382,000 to join.  Once a vaccine has been approved, Belize will pay US$2.1 million for its share of 120 thousand vaccine doses.
