World Food Day Observed in Belize: Here is What You Should Know About This Day

Posted: Friday, October 16, 2020. 1:56 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Today is World Food Day. The day is being observed globally under the theme  “Grow, Nourish, Sustain, Together Our actions are our future”.

The day is set aside to highlight progress in the fight against hunger and malnutrition.

The Office of the Director of Health Services (DHS) says that Belize’s health sector has been doing its part engaging with the Food and Nutrition Security Commission, The Belize Parliamentary Alliance against Hunger and Malnutrition, and the National School Feeding Committee.

The organizations address hunger and malnutrition with national nutrition-related activities coordinated by the Nutrition Unit.

“We have introduced Incaparina (a fortified food packed with nutrients to support health and prevent malnutrition). We have been advocating for the use of naturally grown foods highlighting and sharing the nutrition and health benefits. We will continue to advocate and support the consumption of local healthy foods. We have also supported school feeding programs countrywide with nutritional education and food safety training,” the DHS noted.

The DHS reminds us that healthy food is the key to developing a healthy nation.
