By Aaron Humes: Plans are in place to get Antonio “Tony” Herrera, United Democratic Party standard-bearer for Corozal Southeast nominated on Wednesday by hook or by crook – that is, in person or otherwise.
Herrera received confirmation of his positive COVID-19 status, party leader Patrick Faber informed today, on or about the weekend of October 4. Fifteen days later, Herrera is awaiting the results of another swab that should tell whether he is still positive or has beaten the virus.
According to Faber, if the test is negative, Herrera is free and clear to appear with his nominators at the nomination station on Wednesday. If he is still positive, that raises issues – issues that he said were addressed by the Elections and Boundaries Department-appointed Returning Officer in a meeting today with Herrera and opposite number Florencio Marin, Junior.
“I believe that they are making accommodations for him to be nominated; I believe that that is what came out of the meeting this morning. But we are not quick to jump to that conclusion just yet; in fact, we prefer to wait and see the outcome of his test. Because all of this, then, would be null and void if tomorrow his test is negative, and he is able to, on Wednesday, go to the nomination station in person,” Faber said.
