By Aaron Humes: The Green Machine has landed in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, ahead of Tuesday’s one-off Preliminary Round match in the CONCACAF League against Arcahaie F.C. of Haiti.
Verdes are making their first appearance in the League and have promised to “leave it all on the pitch” of Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez, where the match will be played behind closed doors.
And CONCACAF has named one of its key players as one to watch ahead of the match.
Forward Krisean Lopez, 21, must “come up big” in the organizing body’s estimation to get Verdes past Arcahaie, with support from Mexican forward Mariano Landero. The pairing, they added, makes Verdes “an intriguing team to watch as the tournament kicks off.”
Fortunately, in his career thus far, Lopez has scored nine goals for Verdes in the abbreviated Premier League season which Verdes finished unofficially as champions, and bagged another two for the Jaguars during the national side’s campaign in the 2019-20 CONCACAF Nations League.
Verdes are staying at the Hotel Andino and in training today after flying from Cancun, Mexico, where they initially trained due to COVID-19 restrictions in Belize, even surviving a hit from Hurricane Delta.
