Guatemalan officials seek Former Minister in relation to $16 million cash discovery

By BBN Staff: Officials in Guatemala are seeking the arrest of Former Communications Minister, Jose Luis Benito Ruiz in relation to a home in which authorities found $16 million in different currencies last week, ABC news reports.

Ruiz served under the previous Jimmy Morales administration.

Ruiz is being sought for money laundering charges

The search was conducted in a house at Antigua, Guatemala where authorities discovered 22 suitcases. Prosecutors indicated that Ruiz began renting the house just one month after leaving office in January of this year.

Ruiz was one of President Morales’ closest advisors.
