By BBN Staff: Data released this week from the Ministry of Health (MOH) shows that there were 85 fatal traffic accidents in the year 2019, which killed 103 people.

The Ministry’s data showed that driver negligence was the single greatest cause of traffic accident deaths, accounting for 25 of the total number of accidents.

Loss of vehicle control was the second-highest cause of death, followed by hit and run drivers. Car occupants had the highest percentage of traffic accident deaths (23 percent) followed by motorcycle riders (22 percent) and then cyclists (18 percent). There were also deaths related to tire blowouts, pedestrian negligence, passenger negligence, and deaths resulting from the driver being temporarily blinded.

The Ministry’s data also showed that cyclists being hit was the most frequent accident type in 2019, followed by pedestrians being hit and then vehicles crashing into stationary objects.

The data also showed that four out of five deaths by traffic accidents were males.
