A third of Belize’s COVID-19 deaths have been people older than 55 years old

By BBN Staff: Director of Health Services for the Ministry of Health Dr. Marvin Manzanero said today that people over the age of 55 years make up a third of the country’s COVID-19 deaths.

Manzanero, breaking down the age groups of all the COVID-19 deaths, noted that the youngest person in Belize to die from the virus is a 26-year-old female.

“Most of the cases of people dying have been in the older age group. Now we have 16people out of the total 46 deaths that have been recorded, that’s one-third of cases are in people older than 65. And if you bring down the bracket there are people older than 55, that means people in the retirement age, that is 34 out of the 46 people that would have been older than 55 years of age,” Manzanero said.

He notes that the age groups that are most affected, the vast amount of patients that have been hospitalized are those between ages 25-29, 30-34, and 20-24 in that order, with males more likely to be affected than females.
