By BBN Staff: The Central MedicalLaboratory, which is responsible for processing COVID-19 samples for the Ministry of Health (MOH), is being overwhelmed with samples, according to Director of Health Services Dr. Marvin Manzanero.

Speaking at today’s session of Ask the Experts, Manzanero explained that the turn over time for getting test results to people who are waiting has been causing some concerns, but that the lab is doing the best it can given the magnitude of work it is faced with.

“For the last week, I can tell you that we are having a delay in terms of the number of tests that are being processed at Central Medical Lab; so much so that on Monday we had closed to 1,000 swabs that are still pending,” Manzanero said.

He noted that a preliminary report from the Lab Director said that a record number of testswill be processed today which means that more than 420 samples will be processed by day’s end.

Up to Wednesday, there were almost 700 samples that were pending.
