By BBN Staff: Police in California reportedly received hundreds of calls and complaints from private detention centers of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Yahoo News reports.
Among those calls was one of J. Lee who said that he woke up to find his Belizean cellmate sliding a hand down his pants.
Lee, a detainee who overstayed his visa from South Korea was in a cell with 2 strangers including a Belizean who had been convicted of soliciting the murder of a family of 10 in Belize, according to the report.
The other cellmate told Lee that the Belizean man was violating Lee as he slept.
Lee said that he tried to report the incident but the 911 is disabled on phones accessible to them.
Lee also said that he informed staff but nothing was done.
He then managed to speak to an attorney and later made a police report.
An investigation by the Los Angeles Times noted that atleast 265 calls made to police have reported violence and abuse inside of California’s 4 private federal detention centers.
