COVID outbreak shuts Belize City Magistrates Court for 2 weeks

By Aaron Humes: The Magistracy Department has announced that its courts in Belize City – the Civil Court on North Front Street and the Criminal Courts on Regent Street and Treasury Lane, will remain closed for 2 weeks from Monday, October 26 to Friday, November 6 inclusive.

In a statement this afternoon the court did not confirm reports of cases among its staff, but said that those reported among the Prosecution Branch increased concern for its staff who must interact with them as well as for the public it serves.

The decision to close is in the interest of the health of all involved.

Only arraignments for new offences and bail applications will be dealt with, and all social distancing and face mask measures will continued to be enforced.

All persons who have pending business with these Courts during this period are advised to call the Court office at 227-7164 for adjournment dates and with any other queries or questions after November 9th 2020. The public is also informed that any further advisories concerning court operation and attendance will be announced in this same manner. The public is urged to continue to practice social distancing, wear your face mask properly and stay safe.
