By Aaron Humes: The General Post Office (GPO) in Belize City will be open today, Monday, 26th October, despite the discovery of a COVID-19 case among its staff.
An internal memo from Postmaster General, James Gabriel, to staff, explains that the positive case was identified on Saturday, October 24th.
18 staff members who had direct contact with the infected individual were notified and asked to self-isolate at home and not report to work until they have been tested and found negative.
The GPO office was fumigated and sanitized on Sunday and is now available to be used for regular post office operations.
The memo notes that in order to avoid disruption of service to the public, those not contacted as part of contact tracing are required to present themselves at work, follow the safety protocols of the Ministry of Health, and follow the safety measures imposed internally as well.
