PUP calls out UDP for being ‘hypocritical’ regarding debate issues

Posted: Tuesday, October 27, 2020. 1:09 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Today, the People’s United Party (PUP) issued a statement calling out the UDP for being hypocritical in making allegations that PUP Leader, John Briceno is afraid to debate UDP Leader, Patrick Faber.

“What is ironic and hypocritical is the fact that Faber never responded formally to the invitation to participate in the debate, nor did he attend Monday’s meeting. For the sake of absolute clarity, the PUP notes that John Briceño was invited to participate in a debate to be hosted by the Belize Chamber of Commerce & Industry,” the PUP noted.

According to the party, Briceno sought a meeting with organizers to discuss the details and the organizers have not responded.

The PUP noted the release from the debate committee in which it said it wouldn’t meet with any leader privately and clarified that Briceno never sought any private meeting.

“There was, then, no basis to ignore his request. The People’s United Party has been engaged in countrywide consultations for many months and will continue to involve our people in the decision-making process. We have presented our comprehensive plans and policies for rebuilding the nation and this Thursday, we will launch our Agenda to revitalize the Tourism industry,” the PUP said.

The party urges Belizeans to reflect on the many issues facing the nation as we head toward a critical election process.
