By BBN Staff: Former PUP Minister, Ainslie Leslie died early this morning due to COVID-19 related complications. Leslie’s death brings the total COVID-19 deaths in Belize to 53.

Leslie was admitted to the San Ignacio Hospital and was transported earlier this week to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) where he was admitted to the COVID-19 unit. Leslie’s condition deteriorated rapidly and he was placed on a ventilator last night due to respiratory complications. Sadly, Br. Les, as he was affectionately known, died early this morning.

Br. Les is a businessman and entrepreneur from San Ignacio. He started, or was involved in various businesses, including cable operations in San Ignacio and Benque Viejo del Carmen, and wholesale and retail vending. More recently he was a cabinet maker and a seafood vendor.

Leslie was also the PUP Area Representative for Cayo North from 1998 to 2008 and served as a Minister of State in the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Environment, Commerce, and Industry under the Said Musa Administration.

Breaking Belize News extend condolences to family and friends of Br. Les.
