By BBN Staff: Director of Health Services (DHS) Dr. Marvin Manzanero has confirmed that 6 persons have died in the last 48 hours due to complications associated with COVID-19.
As of today, 58 people in Belize have died due to COVID-19.
Most patients who passed are from Northern Belize where there has been an increase in the number of confirmed cases.
Manzanero said that 4 deaths reported on October 29 is the maximum number documented in 24 hours. The number of deaths at the time was 56.
However, during an interview with Channel 5 Belize, Manzanero shared that the number of deaths had increased during the last 24 hours.
“I am being alerted before I came here that there is another sudden death in Corozal; also in a male, in his forties with apparent predisposing condition and alcohol problem as well. Dr. Murray, Deputy Director of Health Services, is currently doing a review of all sudden deaths and that has been an exhausting experience. He has completed the electronic review and he will be in Orange Walk next week to look at any manual data that may not have been factored in the electronic system. The underlying conditions in almost all cases were hypertension, diabetes and obesity,” Manzanero explained.
The 57th patient was a male patient in his 40s with known pre-existing conditions and was swabbed post mortem.
The 58th patient that passed away is a male that was intubated on Friday because he was unstable and died just before 3 p.m.
