Statistical Institute of Belize to conduct survey of COVID-19 impact on businesses

Posted: Saturday, October 31, 2020. 9:20 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Belizean businesses continue to feel the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on sales and services provided.

The Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) informed that over the four-week period from November 2nd to 27, 2020, it will be conducting a survey on the impact of COVID-19 on businesses in Belize.

The department says that the survey was designed to capture information on the types of effects that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the business sector and how widespread these effects have been.

“The data collected will complement other statistics on the country’s economy that the SIB presently produces on a regular basis to provide a picture of how businesses across all industries and how workers have been affected by the pandemic,” the department explained.

SIB says that the mode of data collection will be by a self-administered web-based questionnaire. Sampled businesses will be sent a secure link by email, to access the questionnaire online.

Follow up telephone calls by trained SIB interviewers will be made as needed.

SIB assures that information collected will be kept strictly confidential and statistics will only be published in the form of aggregated tables.

People may contact the Survey on the Impact of COVID-19 on businesses helpline at 613-8188 or 613-3808.
