90 new cases of COVID-19 identified – cases spreading in Southern Belize

By BBN Staff: After processing a total of 386 samples today, 90 new cases of COVID-19 were detected, resulting in a positivity rate of 23.3%. More cases were detected in the Stann Creek and Toledo districts, indicating that cases are spreading in Southern Belize.

The distribution of the 90 new cases is as follows:

Corozal – 8 (2 San Andres, 2 San Narciso,1 Santa Rita, 1 Libertad, 1 Patchakan, 1 Concepcion)

Orange Walk – 31 (14 Orange Walk Town, 4 San Estevan, 3 Guinea Grass, 3 San Lazaro, 2 Trial Farm, 1 San Felipe, 1 Indian Church, 1 Yo Creek, 1 Carmelita, 1 Shipyard)

Belize – 16 (8 Belize City, 2 San Pedro, 2 Mahogany Heights, 2 Price Barracks,1 Sandhill, 1 from Corozal Town)

Cayo – 8 (2 Santa Familia, 1 Benque Viejo del Carmen, 1 Bullet Tree Falls, 1 Belmopan, 1 Camalote, 1 Roaring Creek, 1 Teakettle)

Stann Creek – 16 (7 Riversdale /Farm 15, 2 Independence, 1 Georgetown, 2 Santa Cruz, 1 Redbank, 1 Dangriga, 2 from Bella Vista Toledo)

Toledo – 11 (10 Punta Gorda, 1 Jacintoville)

There were 47 recoveries today and 36.7% of total cases remain active.

Currently the COVID-19 unit at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) has 8 patients hospitalized, 2 of whom are intubated. One person was discharged from the KHMH today. The Northern Regional Hospital also has 8 patients hospitalized.

Health teams from the Ministry are following the cases closely and giving support to the situation up north, the situation at the banana farms down south and at least three active clusters in Belize City.
