Police offer reward for information in the bizarre double-homicide investigation

By BBN Staff: The Belize Police Department is offering a reward for information regarding a bizarre shooting incident that claimed the lives of two men yesterday.

Reports are that Kareem Gillett, 32, left his home after getting a phone call after 8:40 p.m. and was at the corner of Allan Pitts Crescent and Cesar Ridge Road when a vehicle drove up to him. A man jumped out of the vehicle and fired several shots killing Gillett on the spot.

Police also say that a second man exited the vehicle and accidentally shot the first man, Tareek Smith,23. Smith was then taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in the same vehicle used in the commission of the shooting. Smith died shortly after 10:00 p.m. at the hospital.

Police are encouraging anyone with information on the incident to report it by calling 922 or the nearest police station.
