Posted: Monday, November 2, 2020. 2:19 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) says that Eta has become a major category 3 hurricane.

Hurricane Eta is forecasted to bring life-threatening storm surge, catastrophic winds, flash flooding, and landslides across portions of Central America.

As of this afternoon, the eye of Hurricane Eta was located near latitude 14.7 North, longitude 82.0 West.

Eta is moving toward the west near 9 mph (15 km/h).  A slower motion toward the west-southwest is forecast this afternoon and will continue into Tuesday.

The center of Hurricane Eta is forecasted to approach the northeastern coast of Nicaragua later today and make landfall within the Hurricane Warning area in Nicaragua on Tuesday.

The center of Eta is forecast to move farther inland over northern Nicaragua through Wednesday night.

Satellite data indicate that Eta continues to rapidly strengthen.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 120 mph (195 km/h) with higher gusts.

Continued strengthening is expected until Eta reaches the coast of Nicaragua and it is then expected to weaken as it moves inland.

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the coast of Nicaragua from the Honduras/Nicaragua border to Sandy Bay Sirpi.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the northeastern coast of Honduras from Punta Patuca to the Honduras/Nicaragua border.

A Hurricane Watch is in effect for the northeastern coast of Honduras from Punta Patuca to the Honduras/Nicaragua border.

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the northern coast of Honduras from west of Punta Patuca westward to Punta Castilla.
