By BBN Staff: The global COVID-19 pandemic is fast approaching its one-year mark and has managed to infect over 47 million people to date.
The outbreak which started in Wuhan, China, in mid-December 2019, has infected over 47.05 million people as of 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2020.
There are over 11.96 million currently active cases, with 85,777 (1 percent of the total) being listed as serious or critical cases.
There have been 1,208,048 deaths associated with the virus, and over 33.88 million people have managed to recover from it.
The United States remains the hardest-hit country in the world with over 9.48 million infections and 236,571 deaths. Cases in India continue to rise at a rapid rate, making the country the second-hardest hit in the world by the number of infections with over 8.25 million infections. India remains the third-hardest hit country in the world by way of deaths with 122,891 lives lost to the virus. Brazil ranks third by the number of infections and second by the number of deaths, with over 5.54 million infections and 160104 deaths.
Belize, which managed to keep its number of infections under 50 up until the end of June, now has 3,577 confirmed cases and 59 deaths.
