By BBN Staff: Effective today, all passengers must have a purchased ticket before boarding a bus.
The traffic department says that the sale of tickets will be enforced at:
Dangriga Bus Terminal
Independence Bus Terminal
Belmopan Bus Terminal
Belize City Bus Terminal
Orange Walk Bus Terminal
Corozal Bus Terminal
The traffic department urges all bus operators to adhere to their responsibilities and sell tickets at the bus terminals as mandated by the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Regulation and the Quarantine (Prevention of the spread of infectious disease) (Covid 19) Regulations, 2020 (Statutory Instrument No. 136 of 2020).
Regulation 15(4) of Statutory Instrument No. 136 of 2020 states that “Every person traveling on a bus is required to purchase a ticket which will entitle the holder to queue up, observing social distancing of six feet between persons, for and orderly boarding of the bus.”
The Department of Transport says that along with the Police Department, it will continue to enforce the provisions of the relevant legislation.
Persons who wish to make complaints regarding buses carrying excess passengers, may contact the following persons via WhatsApp 610-8163 or office 828-6752.
