By Aaron Humes: At the request of the Banana Growers’ Association (BGA), Governor-General Sir Colville Young has proclaimed a state of public emergency in the villages of Santa Cruz, Stann Creek District, and Bella Vista, which straddles the Stann Creek-Toledo border, for the next 14 days from Monday, November 2, including election day next Wednesday.
For the purposes of containing COVID-19 and peace and public order, the area is under curfew from 8 p.m. at night to 5 a.m. in the morning. Intoxicating beverages will not be sold.
All other regulations apply.
The area has seen a rise in cases, especially on the Banana farms.
The rest of the country remains under the Quarantine Regulations and for Election Day, an 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew.
The imposition was one of the last acts of the National Oversight Committee which dissolved on Monday.
