Edmond Castro condemns acts of violence against Marconi Leal and family

Posted: Wednesday, November 4, 2020. 3:59 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Belize Rural North Area Representative, Edmond Castro issued a statement today condemning the home invasion committed against Marconi Leal and his family in Sandhill Village.

Reports are that last night, 2 men entered Leal’s home and tied up 3 people who were at home. Leal’s son was returning home and as the men noticed the vehicle, they sped off and escaped. Their escape vehicle overturned after a chase with Leal’s son. Police have detained one suspect.

Castro also expressed solidarity with Leal’s family and says that he has known Marconi Leal and his family for many years, still considers him a friend (notwithstanding their current positions as political rivals) and wishes only the best for their personal wellbeing.

Castro thanked law enforcement authorities for their quick response, supporting and encouraging them in their efforts to bring to justice those responsible for such a cowardly act.

In addition, Castro condemned the elements that he says are attempting to link him with the reprehensible act perpetrated against Leal and his family.

“Honourable Castro categorically denies any responsibility for such an act or any association with those who perpetrated it. He says all who know him are fully aware that he invariably operates with love and kindness, rather than hate and violence,” the statement expressed.
