Posted: Wednesday, November 4, 2020. 9:03 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Central American countries, Nicaragua and Honduras experienced the power of Category 4 Hurricane Eta.

As of today, Eta was downgraded to a Tropical Deptression. However, forecasters are keeping a close eye on Eta since it can re-strenghten after entering the Caribbean Sea.

Nicaragua and Honduras experienced devastation with destruction of homes and power outages.

In Honduras, officials report 1 death. Officials evacuated over 2,000 residents. Hurricane Eta destroyed 5 bridges, 14 roads and 339 homes.

While in Nicaragua, Eta made landfall on Tuesday causing life threatening flash floods and river floods and land slides. In Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua, Eta pulled off roofs, brought down trees and power lines.

Local media report that hurricane shelters were filled to capacity and the city remained without power.

Weather experts warn that torrential rain could lead to life-threatening conditions in Central America.

Belize is expected to experience about 15-30 inches of rainfall.

Hurricane Eta is the 28th named storm of the 2020 Hurricane season.
