Credi- Care program helping Courts, Tropigas, Ready Cash, and Optical customers affected by COVID-19

By BBN Staff: When the COVID-19 global pandemic made its way to Belize back in March, Belize was hit with unprecedented economic difficulty. With the tourism sector grinding to a halt and the country eventually going into lockdown, families all across the country suffered from loss of jobs and loss of income. Unicomer (Belize) Limited, recognizing that many of its customers were affected, began searching for ways to help and in October launched the Credi-Care program.

The program is geared towards offering relief to customers affected by the economic downturn of the pandemic customizing a relief plan tailored specifically to meet the customer’s needs.

Javier Ponce, Managing Director at Unicomer (Belize) Ltd. the parent company of Courts, Tropigas, Ready Cash and Optical explained that the Credi-Care program was developed after assessing the issues customers were having to meet their payments and the effectiveness of the assistance measures that had been rolled out since the pandemic hit.

“We’re learning as we go. It (the pandemic) is something new for us all,” Ponce said. “Before there were isolated measures trying to restructure the debt of our customers, but we realized that we needed something more structured, so we created this Credi-Care program which is a 13 option program.”

Ponce added that customers can come into any of their branches to sign up for the program and that the company is also reaching out to customers by phone to give them information on how it works. He stressed that the program will continue as long as COVID-19 relief is a necessity and it will be continued with the end goal of maintaining a good relationship with customers.
