By BBN Staff: Shortly after 3pm, Breaking Belize News (BBN) received reports that two (2) men were hanging on to the cable of the ferry in San Jose Succotz, Cayo.
A video shared by BBN showed that one of the men was swept away by the strong currents of the Mopan river.
One of the persons who witnessed the incident confirmed minutes ago that the second man seen in the video was also swept away by the currents. It is not known at this time whether the men can swim and managed to reach the safety of the river bank.
Residents along the Mopan River and downstream are advised to exercise caution as water levels continue to rise.
4:30pm Update: The men have been rescued.
