Coast Guard unable to reach family trapped in Calla Creek, Cayo

Posted: Friday, November 6, 2020. 8:34 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Earlier today, our colleagues at The Reporter reported of a family in Calla Creek Village that needed to be rescued.

Tonight, the family remains at their home surrounded by a sea of flood.

BBN has been informed that volunteers and the National Emergency Response Organization (NEMO) were unable to reach the family due to the strong currents and depth of the water.

NEMO sought the assistance of the Belize Coast Guard who after assessing the situation informed the family that they will not be able to rescue them tonight since it is already dark and is dangerous.

PUP standard bearer for Cayo West, Milin Espat, and his team also tried to go into the area but were unable to do so due to the currents.

BBN joins all Belizeans in lifting prayers for the well-being and safety of this family.
