Transport Minister: Traffic moving along George Price Highway, residents urged to move before floods reach

Posted: Saturday, November 7, 2020. 11:39 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Traffic continues to flow on the George Price Highway, according to Minister for Transport and the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) Edmond Castro.

This is despite water rising on the approaches to the new Roaring Creek bridge and repairs at Mile 38.

This water is coming down from the Pine Ridge and Castro warned his compatriots in the Belize River Valley to move their livestock and goods to higher grounds as soon as possible.

Search and rescue efforts continue and damage assessments will begin as soon as possible.

With news that this year’s floods exceed recent records, Castro warned again not to wait until the last minute to move.

Some 30,000 people are expected to be affected per NEMO coordinator Shelton Defour, and the Government promises to assist with food, water and shelter.

86 persons are sheltered in six of 11 shelters countrywide.
