98 new cases of COVID-19 detected; Cayo district dominates new cases

By BBN Staff: A total of 286 samples were processed today with 98 samples testing positive for  COVID-19, resulting in a positivity rate of 34.3% in today’s samples.

The 90 new cases are distributed as follows:

Corozal – 5 (3 Corozal Town, 1 San Narciso, 1 from Belmopan, Cayo)

Orange Walk – 13 (8 Orange Walk Town, 1 Trial Farm, 1 Guinea Grass, 1 August Pine Ridge, 1 from Corozal Town, 1 from Chunox, Corozal)

Belize – 17 (9 City, 5 KOLBE, 1 Ladyville, 1 Hattieville, 1 Caye Caulker)

Cayo – 38 (8 Belmopan, 2 San Ignacio, 3 Santa Elena, 5 Benque Viejo del Carmen, 8 Camalote, 6 Bullet Tree Falls, 3 Buena Vista, 2 Roaring Creek, 1 Esperanza)

Stann Creek – 8 (1 Dangriga, 1 Independence, 4 from Bella Vista TOL, 1 from Bladen, Toledo, 1 from Belmopan, Cayo)

Toledo – 17 (11 Punta Gorda, 3 Indianville, 1 Big Falls, 1 Elridgeville, 1 at community outside of Punta Gorda – “the Dump”)

There were 11 recoveries reported on Sunday, bringing total recoveries to 2,364. 41.7% or 1,742 cases remain active. According to the Director of Health Services (DHS), Belize has not had this percentage of active cases since the middle of September.

In Sunday’s COVID-19 update, the DHS asked Belizeans to continue to remain safe and continue to exercise prevention measures at all times. “Proper mask wearing, physical distancing and avoiding closed, confined spaces remain the hallmarks of prevention”, noted the DHS in the COVID-19 update.
