Rotary Club of Orange Walk Town launches Hurricane Eta relief fundraiser

Posted: Sunday, November 8, 2020. 9:59 am CST.

By BBN Staff: While Belize was not directly hit by Hurricane Eta at the height of its strength, tropical storm Eta dropped considerable rains on the country, flooding many areas and severely impacting the Cayo district. Homes and businesses were submerged in floodwaters and families found themselves in desperate need of assistance. In response, the Rotary Club of Orange Walk Town has launched a GoFundMe page, geared towards raising funds to provide much-needed assistance to those affected by the flood.

Orlando Burns, the organizer of the fundraiser, explained that the “Hurricane Relief Effort for Belize” fundraiser is a coordinated effort between the 10 Rotary Clubs of Belize.

“With the funds collected, we will ensure that the most vulnerable families affected by the floods will receive the necessary assistance. Every cent counts, we are not requesting large donations, we are requesting any financial support within your means to support these communities and families,” Burns said.

Those wishing to make a contribution can visit the Hurricane Relief Effort for Belize page.

Notably, data calculating the damages and losses incurred by the flood are still forthcoming from authorities, however, humanitarian efforts are already underway to provide assistance to those in need. Authorities are currently on the ground in affected areas conducting rescue and other relief efforts while international institutions are reportedly standing by preparing to offer aid as needed.
